Leadership in the Era of a Longevity Society: Intergenerational Challenges and New Leadership Competencies

Demographic changes, extended working lives, and rapid technological transformations are placing organizations before new challenges in leading diverse, multi-generational teams. Intergenerational leadership today goes beyond the management of age diversity and requires a deeper understanding of differing values, motivations, work styles, and expectations of employees across various life and career stages. The lecture will highlight key challenges of intergenerational leadership in contemporary organizations, with particular emphasis on the concept of Active and Healthy Ageing in the Workplace as a strategic framework for sustainable human resource management. The discussion will address the importance of psychosocial safety, lifelong learning, age-adaptive working conditions, and inclusive leadership practices that foster collaboration, knowledge transfer, and intergenerational solidarity.

In conclusion, the lecture will offer a forward-looking perspective on leadership grounded in inclusive, ethical, and age-friendly organizations, where the potential of all generations is recognized as a key developmental asset. Intergenerational leadership will be presented as one of the core competencies of future leaders within the context of a longevity society and sustainable organizational development.
